Kindred Spirits

Kind hearted locals making a difference

North-west Rodney is a place where community still matters, and we’re always amazed at the generosity and good will that locals show one another in our towns and villages. That’s what Kindred Spirits is all about. Local people caring for others deeply. We’re confident we can find 100 big hearted locals who want to provide direct support to the families in our community who need a little extra help. These are our Kindred Spirits.

By committing to just $25 per month, you can help us raise $30,000 this year alone. That money will save lives.

Am I a kindred spirit?

A Kindred Spirit is connected to our people, our work or the area we serve. They are the sort of person who looks out for their neighbours. They understand that hurt people, hurt people and to change that behaviour means dealing with their own trauma and pain. They believe it is possible to create a flourishing and diverse community, where everyone has something to contribute.

Why now?

There has always been a big need for family support services in our community, and COVID has amplified this need. While some families are faring okay, others are bearing more of a burden, and we now have more demand for all our services.

Our family harm team is seeing heightened violence as stresses in the home escalate, and we’ve received more requests for counselling in the last two months than we did in the whole of 2020! As well, COVID means money is tight and the funds we might have relied on from our valued philanthropic funders isn’t as available as it has been in the past.

We need to find other sources of sustainable funding to keep doing what we do at Kindred Family Services, and we need more local people to get involved in making tomorrow better for our children and families.
